The Central government on Monday (3 October) said that it was not planning to scrap the Ministry of Minority Affairs and merge it with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The government termed the media report claiming that the Centre is likely to merge Minority Affairs Ministry with the Social Justice Ministry as 'fake'.

Earlier in the day, Deccan Herald had reported citing sources in the government that the Centre is likely to scrap the Ministry of Minority Affairs, which was established by the UPA government in 2006 - and merge it with the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

However, the government has denied the report, saying that the and said there is no such proposal under its consideration.

“A media report published in @DeccanHerald is claiming that the Central government is likely to scrap the Ministry of Minority Affairs and will merge it with @MSJEGOI This Claim is #FAKE. No such Proposal is under consideration,” read a post on the official Twitter handle of PIB Fact Check.
