Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleged on Wednesday (18 October) that the Adani Group inflated coal import prices, resulting in increased electricity costs. Referring to media sources, Gandhi claimed that the Adani Group profited by Rs 32,000 crore at the expense of the Indian public.

Interestingly, this comes just a day after the Kerala unit of Congress engaged in a verbal duel with CPM-led Left Front to claim credit for the Vizhinjam seaport project, which was developed through a public-private partnership with the Adani Group.

Congress leader V D Satheesan credited the late former chief minister and Congress stalwart Oommen Chandy for facilitating the project while criticising Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan for taking undue credit.

Both Satheesan and senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor were also present at the event organised for marking the arrival of inaugural ship at Vizhinjam port.

He accused Adani of siphoning money from the poorest individuals, denouncing the situation as a case of direct theft.

He further criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not addressing the issue and questioned why no action was being taken against Adani.

These assertions came a week after the Adani Group dismissed allegations by the UK-based Financial Times, branding them as a malicious campaign and recycled, unsubstantiated claims aimed at tarnishing the conglomerate's global reputation.
