A Constitution bench of the Supreme Court continued to hear the batch of petitions arguing for legal recognition to same-sex marriages in India.
Today is the sixth day of the hearing.
Appearing on behalf of the Union government, that is opposing the SC granting legal validity to same-sex marriages was Solicitor General Tushar Mehta.
During the course of his submissions, the SG pleaded:
To this, the CJI is reported to have responded: "That is far fetched".
SG Mehta: "We used to treat even this as far fetched". "This" here referring to same-sex marriages.
At the time of writing, the hearing was going on with the Solicitor General continuing with his submissions.
