BJP Tally Touches 100-Mark In Rajya Sabha, Becomes First Party To Achieve The Feat In Over Three Decades

After the recent round of elections for the Rajya Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tally in the Upper House has crossed 100-mark for the first time.
BJP and its ally won four out of the 13 Rajya Sabha seats that went for elections on Thursday (31 March).
The party, along with its ally UPPL, won four Rajya Sabha seats from three Northeastern states -- Assam, Tripura and Nagaland.
BJP's Pabitra Margherita and UPPL's Rwngra Narzary won two seats in Assam, while Congress candidate and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Ripun Bora, who was the common candidate of a united opposition, suffered defeat, reports Times of India.
BJP also won the Nagaland seat uncontested, which was held by it ally, NPF. Meanwhile, CPM lost its seat in Tripura to BJP.
In total, BJP won three Rajya Sabha seats while its ally UPPL won one seat in the elections to the Upper House on Thursday.
The BJP earlier had 97 seats in the Rajya Sabha and with addition of three new members, the party will now have 100 seats in the Upper House.
The BJP will reportedly be the first party to cross 100-seat mark in the Rajya Sabha after 1988.
