The Bharatiya Janata Party is contemplating a strategy of appointing a chief minister with two deputies in Rajasthan, aiming to accommodate representatives from three significant communities for a balanced political equation.
According to a report from the Times of India, the party is considering MLAs from the Rajput, Brahmin, Meena, and Jat communities for the three key positions. To address social engineering, the Speaker post is likely to be reserved for a Scheduled Caste (Dalit) woman MLA.
However, these discussions are preliminary and contingent on approval from central leaders.
Senior party figures acknowledge that various castes and communities have been advocating for their candidates for the top position.
To navigate this, the party sees the option of appointing at least two deputies as a pragmatic approach to address prominent communities through social engineering.
Once the chief ministerial candidate is finalised and communicated to the state unit, the focus will shift to selecting the two deputies.
The BJP is also under pressure from caste-oriented leaders actively advocating for their candidates for the top post, using social media campaigns with hashtags to draw attention.
State leaders have conveyed to central leadership that maintaining balance among major castes and communities is crucial, as it has become a matter of pride for some groups.
With an eye on winning all 25 Lok Sabha seats for the third consecutive time, the BJP is cautious amid the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in less than 100 days. The party aims to avoid risks, especially with a narrow margin of 2.16 per cent votes between the Congress and the BJP in the 2023 assembly polls.
In the 2018 polls, the margin was 0.5 per cent despite the BJP winning all 25 seats for the second time in the 2019 polls. The party is factoring in anti-incumbency sentiments against sitting MPs, with three out of seven MPs contesting assembly polls and losing.
Meanwhile, Tijara MP Baba Balak Nath has dismissed speculations about becoming the CM of Rajasthan, urging people to ignore such rumours.
