The day after the BJP released its manifesto promising the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and National Register of Citizens (NRC), the Congress party released its manifesto.
In its manifesto, the Congress party vowed to increase the reservation ceiling from 50 per cent to 75 per cent to accommodate the hopes and aspirations of SC/ST/OBC/minority and other communities such as Lingayats and Vokkaligas.
The party also promised to eradicate corruption in public works and introduce a whistleblower protection act.
Although the BJP promised the implementation of the UCC and NRC in its manifesto, Karnataka Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar, who headed the BJP’s campaign manifesto, stated that the ruling party would not introduce the UCC and NRC immediately after returning to power. Instead, they would set up an expert committee to study these issues.
PM Modi Criticises Congress At Chitradurga Rally
On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Chitradurga and accused the Congress party of having a history of appeasing terrorists.
He cited examples such as the Batla House encounter in Delhi and the Congress party's questioning of the armed forces' ability after the surgical strike.
"In Karnataka, Congress has promoted terror in the state. BJP has broken the back of terror and ended the game of appeasement… Congress and JD(S), which promotes terror, can never benefit the state,” PM Modi said, reports The Indian Express.
