Karnataka Cabinet has decided to withdraw criminal cases against Hindu activists, farmer leaders, Kannada activists among others on the basis of the recommendations of a cabinet sub-committee.

As reported by One India, among the Hindu activists are those who had protested in front of state Home Minister Araga Jnanendra’s house last month demanding for a ban on the Popular Front of India (PFI).

The activists had accused the PFI and its members of having a role in the murder of Hindutva activists, the latest being that of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Praveen Nettaru and had protested in front of Jnanendra’s official residence in Bengaluru.

The security agencies were said to have been caught offguard and the situation was brought under control only with the detention of the activists.

FIR had been filed against 30 Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists who were then released on bail.

Hindu activists in the state have been angry after the recent spate of killings in the state which is said to work against the ruling BJP government in the elections that are round the corner.

CM Bommai had accussed the previous Siddharamaiah-led-Congress government’s withdrawal of cases against the SDPI and PFI as having fuelled their growth in the state. While Siddharamaiah then furbished numbers and details of ongoing investigations rubbishing the accusation, Bommai had said 22 Hindu youth were killed and the cases against the accussed, who were members of these organisations, had led to a repeat of the incidents.

As per Siddaramaiah’s admission, SDPI and PFI workers are accused in 8 cases of Hindus among 12 of the total 23 murders that had taken place, due to communal conflicts and political rivalry, in his tenure. While 8 of the total 11 murder cases of Muslims had Bajrang dal activists as accused, the other 3 had other various Hindu organisation activits named.

The issue had worked in the favour of BJP last election season when it swept the entire coast winning seven out of the eight seats.
