The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has said that many Kerala based leaders of the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI), were in touch with top leaders of the global terror organisations, ISIS and Al-Qaeda.

The submission was made to the NIA Special Court in Kochi while seeking additional time to investigate the PFI leaders who were arrested during the nationwide raids in late September.

The NIA also said that the PFI had a secret and dedicated wing to compile data of leaders from other communities, which would later be used as a hit-list. The operations of this secret wing were done from the PFI office.

Some of the evidence collected clearly showed that PFI leaders had helped in radicalising and recruiting people for terror outfits.

The court granted an additional 90 days for filing the charge sheet and extended the judicial custody of the accused for another 180 days.
