Mahendra Bhatt is the new state chief in Uttarakhand BJP.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttarakhand has got a new state chief. National general secretary, BJP, Arun Singh made the announcement public in a letter.
The letter says that BJP national president JP Nadda has appointed Mahendra Bhatt the state president. Mahendra Bhatt has previously represented the Badrinath assembly seat.
Media speculations regarding the change of guard in the Uttarakhand unit were on immediately after the assembly polls held in the state earlier this year.
Bhatt has been passed on the state leadership baton by Madan Kaushik, who has represented Haridwar in assembly elections. Bhatt hails from Garhwal region.
He is known to be an experienced leader, knows the contours of state politics, the dynamics of upper Garhwal, particularly the Chamoli district and surrounding assembly seats. Badrinath and Nandprayag have been his focal areas.
His appointment comes at a time when the BJP is in a comfortable position in the state after a record victory of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Champawat (Kumaon).
The BJP won the assembly poll defeating the Congress, taking 47/70 seats, to be in power the second time in a row, a first in the state's history.
The main task of Bhatt would be to continue strengthening the party and its work right down to the booth level ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Bhatt has risen in the BJP's organisation with roots in the RSS and the ABVP.
