Mizoram CM Zoramthanga (Twitter)
In a setback for Chief Minister Zormathanga led Mizo National Front (MNF), Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) has surged past halfway mark in the ongoing counting for Mizoram Assembly Elections.
The majority mark for the 40-member Mizoram Assembly is 21.
According to the Election Commission data, ZPM has won two seats and is leading in 26 others.
In the 2018 assembly elections, ZPM had secured eight seats.
The ruling MNF, which secured 28 seats in the last elections, was trailing behind with leads on just 8 seats.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading on three seats, while Congress, which was once a ruling party in the state, is only leading on 1 seat.
In 2018 polls, BJP had won one seats while Congress bagged five seats.
