If parliamentary elections were held today, the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi would secure a comfortable majority of 306 seats and retain power, as per the India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation (MOTN) poll.

The survey indicates that the NDA would surpass the required 272 seats to form a government. The poll projects that the NDA would win 306 seats, while the opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is expected to secure 193 seats, with the remaining political parties winning 44 seats.

The NDA has seen a slight improvement of eight seats compared to the previous MOTN survey conducted in January 2023. However, this is still lower than the 357 seats the NDA won in the 2019 general election.

Notably, the newly-formed INDIA alliance has experienced a significant increase in projected seat share. In the January survey, the alliance was expected to win 153 seats, but the August edition of the poll now estimates their seat share to be 193.

According to the survey, if elections were held today, the NDA would secure 43 per cent of the vote share, while INDIA would receive 41 per cent.

Based on the MOTN poll, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is projected to win 287 parliamentary seats, which is 15 more than the required majority of 272. The Congress, on the other hand, is projected to win 74 seats.

The survey involved interviews with a total of 25,951 respondents across all states. In addition, data from 134,487 regular tracker interviews was analysed, bringing the total sample size to 160,438.

The interviews for the survey were conducted between 15 July and 14 August.
