The Punjab police on Monday (10 April) arrested a close aide of fugitive radical Khalistani preacher Amritpal Singh.
Papalpreet, who is reportedly considered the brain behind Amritpal's escape from the police dragnet, was arrested by the State police in Hoshiarpur.
Amritpal and Papalpreet earlier escaped a police chase in Jalandhar. After arriving at Hoshiarpur, they reportedly took different routes.
Papalpreet was reportedly in close contact with ISI and was taking instructions from the Pakistani spy agency, Times of India reported citing officials.
The Punjab Police had launched a crackdown on Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal and his aide Papalpreet on 18 March. They had been on the run since then.
According to officials cited in the ToI report, Papalpreet is considered one of Amritpal Singh's mentors who had been advising him on various issues.
Papalpreet had been working with Amritpal since his return to India last year.
Amritpal had taken over the leadership of 'Waris Punjab De' after the demise of actor Deep Sidhu, the founder of the outfit', in a road accident in 2021.
