Sachin Pilot In Delhi, May Meet Party Leadership Day After Protest Defying CM Ashok Gehlot — Report

Congress leader Sachin Pilot arrived in Delhi on Wednesday (12 April) reportedly to meet party leadership, after publicly opposing his party-led government in Rajasthan, according to a report by NDTV.

Although there is currently no planned meeting between Pilot and senior party leaders, there is speculation that such a meeting may take place, according to sources in the party.

Congress warned Pilot against anti-party activity for his fast on Tuesday (11 April) to demand action against corruption from the Gehlot-led government.

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has called a press conference on Wednesday.

Pilot launched his one-day fast in Jaipur as he blames Gehlot for not acting on allegations against Vasundhara Raje from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and seeks accountability.

"We had assured people that effective action will be taken against corruption by the former BJP government. I wanted the Congress government to take action, but it has not happened in over four years," Pilot said.

"This struggle against corruption will continue," he added.

Gehlot shared a video stressing his government's welfare policies in an attempt to portray himself as a "pro-poor chief minister," after Pilot initiated his protest.

The two leaders' public quarrel has embarrassed Congress as they gear up for polls in a state they govern.

The Congress leadership have avoided acting against Pilot, and currently seem to be supporting Gehlot.

"Sachin Pilot's day-long fast on Tuesday is against the party interests and is anti-party activity. If there is any issue with his own government, it can be discussed in the party forums instead of in the media and public," Rajasthan Congress' in-charge Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said in a statement on 10 April.

Pilot's recent clash with Gehlot is viewed as a tactic to push the Congress leadership into resolving the question of the central figure of the party in Rajasthan.
