DMK youth wing leader, Udhayanidhi Stalin.
In the aftermath of the India-Pakistan World Cup match held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, videos emerged, capturing the crowd's collective chant of "Jai Shri Ram" as Pakistani player Muhammad Rizwan made his way into the dressing room.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, who serves as Minister of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, swiftly criticized this behavior, denouncing it as unacceptable.
Through a post on X, he stated, "India is renowned for its sportsmanship and hospitality. However, the treatment meted out to Pakistan players at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is unacceptable and a new low. Sports should be a unifying force between countries, fostering true brotherhood. Using it as a tool to spread hatred is condemnable."
Some social Media users criticised Stalin for his comments and called him out for his double standards.
Some users were also quick to remind Stalin on how Tamil Nadu government had previously disallowed players from Sri Lanka to participate in matches scheduled at Chennai. This decision was taken in view of prevalent anti-Sinhaleese sentiment in the state.
This decision of Tamil Nadu government of not allowing Sri Lankan cricketers in Indian Premier League (IPL) matches scheduled in the state had attracted criticism from prominent senior cricketers such as Muttiah Muralitharan.
