15:10 PM: The BJP is poised for a massive victory in the UP municipal elections, leading in 16 out of 17 corporation seats. According to recent reports, Girishpati Tripathi from the BJP has emerged victorious in Ayodhya with a significant margin of 34,000 votes, defeating Ashish Pandey from the SP. The party has also won in Jhansi, Saharanpur, and Vrindavan-Mathura. It has taken a decisive lead in the Kanpur mayor seat.
11:45 AM: The BJP is leading in 15 out of the 17 municipal corporations, while the SP and BSP are ahead in one corporation each.
In the high-stakes battle in Varanasi, the BJP is leading by around 16,000 votes, while the SP is trailing behind with 9,000 votes. The Congress is in third place with 5,000 votes.
9:25 AM: As per the latest update on the UP Nagar Nikay Chunav results, the BJP is leading in 14 municipal corporations, including Ayodhya, Varanasi and Lucknow, while the Congress is leading in Kanpur.
The Samajwadi Party has taken the lead in Meerut, while the Bahujan Samaj Party is leading in Saharanpur.
8:50 AM: The Uttar Pradesh Nagar Nikay Chunav results have begun to pour in, with the BJP taking the lead in eleven municipal corporations of Uttar Pradesh Nagar Nikay Chunav, with Ayodhya and Lucknow among them, according to Dainik Bhaskar.
UP Municipal Election: What You Should Know
The vote counting process has commenced for the urban local body elections in Uttar Pradesh, where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav engaged in fierce campaigning.
The elections for Nagar Nikay Chunav were conducted in two phases on May 4 and May 11, with a voter turnout of approximately 53 per cent out of the 4.32 crore eligible voters, according to the Election Commission.
The results will determine the election of 17 mayors and 1,401 corporators, with 19 corporators already elected unopposed.
Notably, Shahjahanpur in northwestern part of the state will witness its first-ever mayoral election since becoming a municipal corporation in 2018, one year after the previous civil polls in the state.
