India Suggests G20 Satellite To Monitor Climate; World Leaders Urged To Join Initiative For Global South's Benefit

India has proposed the launch of a G20 Satellite Mission for Environment and Climate Observation, aimed at assisting countries in the Global South.
This suggestion was made on Saturday (9 September) by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G20 Leaders' Summit, which took place at the Bharat Mandapam international convention centre, with world leaders like US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and South Africa President Cyril Ramaphosa in attendance.
PM Modi emphasised that the G20 satellite mission would benefit all of humanity, drawing a parallel to the data obtained from India's successful Chandrayaan Moon mission.
India is proposing the launch of this mission with the same spirit.
“The climate and weather data obtained from this will be shared with all the countries, especially the countries of the Global South. India invites all G20 countries to join this initiative,” he said during a session at the G20 Leaders' Summit.
