India's Tiger Numbers On The Rise; Population In 2022 Was 3,167, Up 6.7 Per Cent From 2018

India's latest tiger census, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, shows a population of 3,167 tigers in 2022.
Tiger population grew from 1,411 in 2006, 1,706 in 2010, 2,226 in 2014, and 2,967 in 2018, to 3,167 in 2022.
The animal’s population in the country increased by 200, or 6.7 per cent, in the past four years (2018-22).
The Prime Minister marked 50 years of 'Project Tiger' and unveiled the 'International Big Cat Alliance' to safeguard the seven big cat species — tigers, lions, leopards, snow leopards, pumas, jaguars, and cheetahs.
A booklet titled 'Amrit Kaal Ka Tiger Vision' was released, outlining the vision for tiger conservation in the next 25 years.
"It has been 50 years of Project Tiger. The success of Project Tiger has been an achievement not only for India, but for the entire world. India has not only saved the tiger, but has given it a great ecosystem in which to flourish," Prime Minister Modi said, addressing the international conference.
"It is a matter of great happiness for us that at a time when we have completed 75 years of Independence, that nearly 75 per cent of the world’s tiger population can now be found in India and tiger reserves in the country span 75,000 square kilometres," he added.
