The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested the fourth accused in connection with the Communist Party of India (Maoist) terror funding case.

In a statement released on Monday (26 June), the NIA said that the accused was arrested on Friday (23 June) for attempting to revive the banned terror outfit in Magadh Zone of Bihar.

According to the NIA, the accused has been identified as Anandi Paswan alias Anand Paswan (46) and has more than five criminal cases registered against him in various police stations in Bihar, reports news agency ANI.

The agency said that illegal arms and ammunition were seized during the raids conducted at the premises of Anandi on 12 February 2022.

Earlier, the NIA had apprehended Tarun Kumar, Pradyuman Sharma and Abhinav alias Gaurav, and had charge-sheeted two accused on 20 January this year.

NIA investigations have revealed that the proscribed terrorist organisation, CPI (Maoist), was attempting to raise funds to procure arms and ammunition, and to recruit new cadres to further its criminal and violent designs for reviving itself in the Magadh Zone area.

The arrested individuals were liaising with Naxals and OWGs incarcerated in various jails to revive and strengthen Naxal activities in the region.

The NIA had suo-moto registered the case on 30 December 2021, and is currently investigating the matter.
