The Uttar Pradesh government has set a three-month deadline for various departments to complete phase one of the 'Safe City' project.

The project aims to ensure the safety of women, children, the elderly, and the disabled, and involves coordination with 12 departments, including Urban Development, Transport, Women and Child Development, Information and Public Relations, Department of Justice, and Education.

“The State government has issued a deadline to various departments to complete the work of the first phase of the Safe City project within the stipulated period of three months,” reads a statement, reports The Hindu.

The implementation of the Safe City project will occur in three phases. The first phase will cover Gautam Buddha Nagar and 17 municipal corporations, followed by 57 district headquarters municipalities in the second phase, and finally 143 municipalities in the third phase.

The first phase of the project has completed the identification of locations for installing government and private closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, street lights, and toilets.

Additionally, the Urban Development Department is working on the Safe City App, which will be incorporated into the Smart City App to assist citizens.

The Transport Department is also developing the 'Nayan App' to ensure safe travel for citizens.

The State police are implementing the Savera scheme to ensure the safety of the elderly and provide them with necessary assistance.

As part of the Safe City project, beat constables will gather data on senior citizens in their areas and regularly visit their homes to check on their well-being.

These constables will offer assistance and report any issues to higher officials.
