India's Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu have achieved a golden victory in the squash mixed doubles final, securing another gold medal for India at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.
Further, the Indian compound archery women's team also clinched gold at the Asian Games by defeating Chinese Taipei.
With these victories, India has now won a total of 83 medals in the Asian Games 2023, the highest tally so far in the continental games.
India's medal tally of 83 includes 20 gold, 31 silver, and 32 bronze.
In a thrilling match that lasted 35 minutes, the Pallikal and Sandhu emerged victorious with an 11-10, 11-10 win over Malaysia's Aifa Binti Azman and Mohammad Syafiq Bin Mohd Kamal.
However, the Malaysian duo took advantage of this lapse and won seven consecutive points, turning the score from 3-9 to 10-9 in their favor.
Nevertheless, Harinder and Dipika quickly regained their composure and raised their level of play, ultimately closing out the match.
It should be noted that Dipika had a successful performance at the continental showpiece, winning two medals. She earned a bronze in the women's team event and a gold in mixed doubles. This is likely to be her last appearance at the event.
Throughout her participation in four editions of the Asian Games, the 32-year-old athlete has accumulated a total of six medals. Among these, she has secured one gold, one silver, and four bronze medals.
Meanwhile, the India's compound women's archery team, consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Gopichand, and Parneet Kaur, won a gold medal at the Asian games by defeating Chinese Taipei team with a final score of 230-229.
