The Indian contingent's performance at the Asian Games 2023 has been the best ever since 2018, securing over 80 medals.

India's medal tally of 82 at the Asian Games 2023 includes 19 gold, 31 silver, and 32 bronze.

India had previously achieved its highest medal haul at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, where the country's athletes brought home 70 medals. This consisted of 16 gold, 23 silver, and 31 bronze.

In a remarkable achievement, Indian race walkers Manju Rani and Ram Baboo won a bronze medal in the 35km mixed race walk event, contributing to the nation surpassing its own record.

Adding to the tally, compound archers Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam secured India's 71st medal by winning the mixed team gold medal.

India's chef de mission Bhupender Singh Bajwa expressed great pleasure in announcing that India has achieved its best-ever medal haul in the Asian Games, surpassing 70 medals. He also mentioned that there are more medals to come.

With the intention of surpassing 100 medals at the Asian Games, India has sent its largest-ever contingent to the continental showpiece.

The catchphrase for India's participation in the Hangzhou Games is 'Aab ki Baar, Sau Paar', which translates to 'crossing 100 medals this time'.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been actively praising Indian athletes and their accomplishments at the 2023 Asian Games.

On 4 October 2023, PM Modi congratulated the bronze medalists in the 35m race walk and the gold medalists in archery for their outstanding performances in the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou.

In a post on X, he commended the players for their remarkable endurance and determination.

He said, "Congratulations to Ram Baboo and Manju Rani for bringing glory to India with their Bronze Medal in the 35km Race Walk Mixed Team event. This would not have been possible without the incredible endurance and determination shown by these exceptional athletes."

Jyothi Surekha and Ojas Deotale were also praised by the Prime Minister for their gold medal in the mixed team compound archery event.

The ongoing Asian Games witnessed Archery securing its first gold medal.

India's performance in the Jakarta 2018 games has been surpassed with the addition of another medal. The country now boasts a total of 71 medals, including 16 gold, 26 silver, and 29 bronze.

The Indian contingent at the Asian Games in Hangzhou has seen remarkable performances from shooters and track and field athletes, who have secured 22 and 29 medals respectively.
