Karnataka Government Allocates Rs 1,100 Crore For Bengaluru Road Repairs Amid Pothole Crisis

The Karnataka government has allocated Rs 1,100 crore for the development and repair of roads in Bengaluru, aiming to make the city pothole-free.

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, announced this on Sunday (21 September), via a post on X.

The move comes amid growing complaints about the city's deteriorating infrastructure, exacerbated by heavy rains and traffic.

Shivakumar stated that the funds will be used for repairing and constructing roads across the Silicon Valley of India.

This allocation follows recent criticisms, including from BlackBuck CEO Rajesh Yabaji, who highlighted crumbling roads but later affirmed his company's commitment to the city.

The government has set a 31 October deadline for filling all potholes.

Meanwhile, this is part of broader infrastructure efforts.

It is worth noting that Bengaluru's road woes have sparked debates, with Shivakumar attributing potholes to natural factors like rain and vehicles.

Responding to opposition criticism, he emphasised ongoing efforts, including a meeting with the Chief Minister.

The allocation aligns with other projects, such as the proposed Rs 18,000 crore elevated corridor to decongest traffic, expected to start in December 2025.

The initiative is expected to improve connectivity, reduce travel times, and boost the city's appeal for businesses.
