Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed on Monday (28 October) that the Muslim population is rising in Jharkhand due to illegal immigrants who have infiltrated India.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) co -in-charge for Jharkhand assembly elections said, "I ignite fire against infiltrators. Lord Hanuman had also set fire in Lanka. We have to set fire against infiltrators and make Jharkhand a golden land."

Sarma alleged that Aadhar cards are being issued to infiltrators through madrassas in Jharkhand and that in Santhal Pargana, the tribal population is decreasing and the Muslim population is increasing.

Calling it 'simple mathematics', Sarma accused Chief Minister Hemant Soren of backing infiltrators and said, "We will win the elections but that is not the main priority, it is to throw out infiltrators from Santhal Pargana and justice for women."

"Infiltrators will be made to run as per law," 'Jai Shri Ram' slogans echoed as the Assam CM said this. He also promised to implement the National Register for Citizens (NRC) in Santhal Pargana to remove infiltrators.

Anti-infiltration is the pitch adopted by the BJP for the two-phase Jharkhand assembly elections where it seeks to snatch power from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Congress alliance.
