At least 15 people died of electrocution on Wednesday (19 July) after a after a high-tension wire allegedly fell on the premises of a Namami Gange project site in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district.
Additionally, several individuals suffered burn injuries, with two of them reportedly believed to be critical, as a result of the incident,
Among the victims were a police sub-inspector and three home guard personnel.
The remaining affected persons were workers at the site of the project, reports Times of India.
In response to the tragedy, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has taken the initiative to order a magisterial inquiry into the incident.
“The incident is very unfortunate incident. Rescue and relief work is on. The injured are being shifted to AIIMS Rishikesh," Dhami said, reports News18.
“We are getting information that at least 15 have been killed, including one police sub-inspector and two home guards," V Murugesan, the additional director general of police, was quoted as saying by News18.
