Amit Shah To Hold Talks With ITLF Leaders Amid Fresh Clashes In Mizoram; KPA Withdraws Support From BJP Govt

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to hold talks with representatives of the Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum (ITLF) in New Delhi on either Monday or Tuesday.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga disclosed that he facilitated the meeting at Shah's request, aiming for "one-to-one" talks with Manipur's Kuki-Zo tribal leaders.
The decision for the meeting came after a series of violent incidents in the region. On Saturday, Shah reached out to Zoramthanga as the areas of Kuki-dominated Churachandpur and Meitei-dominated Bishnupur reported five fatalities, the torching of several houses, and intense gunfights.
Additionally, there was a fresh attempt to snatch weapons from a police team in Imphal West, which was successfully thwarted.
In response to the escalating situation, ten companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), totaling nearly 1,000 personnel, were airlifted to the State on Saturday night.
In light of the "current conflagration," the Kuki People's Alliance (KPA) withdrew its support to the BJP-led government in the State.
The party's president, Tongmang Haokip, conveyed the withdrawal of support to Governor Anusuiya Uikey through a letter, stating that aligning with the government was no longer fruitful.
The KPA holds two seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. However, the withdrawal of their outside support is unlikely to significantly impact the BJP, which currently holds 32 seats.
