Mamman Khan with Rahul Gandhi
The BJP-led Haryana government has held the Congress responsible for the Nuh violence that took place on 31 July against a Hindu religious procession.
Haryana's Home Minister Anil Vij stated in the state assembly on Monday (28 August) that based on the investigation conducted so far, the Congress seems to be responsible for the violence. He said that evidence has been found against Congress MLA from Ferozepur Jhirka Mamman Khan.
He said that based on the statements of those arrested so far, it has come to light that the Congress is responsible for this violence. Mamman Khan has been issued a notice regarding his activities, and he has been asked to participate in the investigation.
Vij elaborated, "Until now, the number of people arrested is around 500. The investigation has revealed that this is all the doing of Congress."
Congress leaders protested vehemently against the Home Minister's statement. The speaker then assured them that this statement will be deleted from the record.
The house was adjourned for half an hour on the very first day of the monsoon session following the ruckus.
At the beginning of the violence, the names of cow vigilantes Monu Mannesar, Bittu Bajrangi, and Congress MLA Mamman Khan had come forward. The video of Mamman Khan had gone viral in which he had threatened with Monu Mannesar's name in the assembly.
Six people died in the communal violence that erupted after the attack on the Brijmandal Yatra in Nuh on 31 July. There was vandalism and arson in several districts from Nuh to Gurugram and Faridabad. The situation was brought under control by imposing Section 144 and shutting down the internet.
