Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan formally launched Seekho-Kamao Yojana (Learn and Earn Scheme) by giving approval letters to some youths in Bhopal on Tuesday (22 August).

The scheme intends to provide a monthly income of Rs. 8,000-10,000 to youths while they learn skills. The registration process started in June and till now 8 lakh youths have registered themselves.

The CM stated that he observed that youth face difficulties in finding employment. While dismissing the idea of an unemployment allowance, Chouhan said that through this scheme "We will teach our children skills and provide them with opportunities to work."

So far, 16,744 companies have registered themselves for this scheme. 70,386 positions have been advertised, and 15,092 contracts have been created.

The CM said that under the Learn and Earn Scheme, training will be provided using the latest technology and methods. After this, certificates will be awarded by the Madhya Pradesh State Skill Development and Employment Board.

Chouhan stated that Sant Ravidas Global Skill Park is being established in Bhopal, where training will be provided to 6,000 youths. Training is also being provided at the Model ITI.

Youths in the age range of 18 to 29 are eligible for this scheme. The monthly stipends will be given as follows: Rs. 8,000 for those who have completed 8th to 12th grade, Rs. 8,500 for ITI graduates, Rs. 9.000 for diploma holders, and Rs. 10,000 for graduates and highly educated youths.

Youths have an opportunity to be trained in 700 curriculums of 46 domains. Chouhan said that the scheme will solve dual problems of scarcity of skilled manpower and the lack of jobs.

Madhya Pradesh is one of the states with the lowest unemployment rates in the country. In April 2023, the state had an unemployment rate of only 3.7 percent.

Around 1.3 million beneficiaries have benefited from both central and state government self-employment schemes. The CM stated that a self-employment assistance of Rs. 67,000 crores has been provided to these 1.3 million beneficiaries.

While talking about government jobs, he said that 60,000 vacancies have been filled in one year, and recruitment is ongoing for 40,000 more positions. However, he accepted that it's not possible to provide government jobs to everyone.

Hence, the government formulated the Learn and Earn Scheme. For self-employment, the state government has Udyam Kranti Yojana, through which loans from 1 lakh to 50 lakhs can be obtained.
