KA Sengottaiyan Meets Amit Shah And Nirmala Sitharaman Days After Call For United AIADMK Led To His Removal From Party Posts

Senior AIADMK leader K A Sengottaiyan, who was recently removed from his party posts after publicly calling for the reunification of various factions of the party, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Delhi.

At the Coimbatore International Airport on his return from Delhi he said, “I left for Haridwar, and when I reached Delhi, I was granted permission to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. We exchanged views on the current political situation. I told them that everyone (estranged leaders of AIADMK) should unite and the party should be strengthened.”

Along with him, six district-level functionaries loyal to Sengottaiyan were also removed.

The move had sparked unrest in Sengottaiyan’s stronghold of Gobichettipalayam. On Sunday (7 September), dozens of local AIADMK leaders resigned en masse.

Sengottaiyan’s sacking followed his 10-day ultimatum to the leadership to reinstate expelled leaders, a reference to V K Sasikala, O Panneerselvam (OPS) and T T V Dhinakaran. EPS, however, asserted that “none can break the party,” while also pitching for a Bharat Ratna for the Thevar icon Muthuramalinga Thevar.

Party insiders caution that the rift, if left unresolved, could weaken AIADMK’s prospects ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
