Senthil Balaji has approached the Supreme Court for bail after his plea on medical grounds was rejected by Justice G Jayachandran of the Madras High Court on 19 October.

Among the reasons stated by Justice Jayachandran were his continuation as a minister in the state cabinet, the attack on Income Tax officials when they had gone for a search and that his brother Ashok Kumar, continues to abscond.

According to a report by India Today, senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi appeared for Balaji and requested an urgent hearing. The Supreme Court then agreed to hear the matter on 30 October.
