All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) on Monday (2 October) said that the decision to part ways with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was not the decision of the general secretary but the decision of the two-crore party cadre.

He said this while addressing booth committee members at Suramangalam in Salem.

Regarding points made by critics saying that it would be difficult for the AIADMK to face the 2024 Lok Sabha election without a Prime Minister face after exiting the NDA, Palaniswami said that there are many parties which are doing so in states like Telangana, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala.

He added that the AIADMK would have to spread awareness among people of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government's unfulfilled promises and work hard to win the elections.

His statement came at a time when BJP state president K Annamalai was in Delhi to meet the party's national leadership.
