Chennai has been facing heavy rainfall leading to flooding in parts of the city. Sharing pictures and videos, the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) have questioned the government over the effectiveness of spending Rs 4000 crore for stormwater drainage works in the city.

Supporters of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) posted pictures and videos of areas not affected by flooding to contend that their government has done a good job.

According to a report by Livemint, areas in Chennai and surrounding districts like Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kanchipuram received 5-6 cm of rainfall.

A low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal, which is likely to turn into a depression, is expected to bring heavy rainfall till 3 December.

The padayatra is currently covering the delta region of the state.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Annamalai wrote, "The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted heavy rains in coastal districts of Tamil Nadu caused by a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal & South Andaman Sea.

"Hence, considering the safety of our people and Brothers and Sisters of @BJP4TamilNadu, we have decided to postpone our #EnMannEnMakkal PadaYatra till the 5th of December. The PadaYatra will resume on the 6th of December, and the revised schedule will be published at the earliest."
