The Dinamalar headline and sub-heading criticised by CM Stalin
Chief Minister MK Stalin and the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) today (31 August) criticised Brahmins and Sanatana Dharma because of a controversial headline and sub-heading by Dinamalar, a Tamil newspaper, regarding the recently launched Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme.
While the headline stated, "Breakfast Scheme – Double Meals For Students", the sub-heading stated, "Toilets in schools overflowing."
The article suggested that there was an increase in the usage of restrooms by students as they were eating more after the introduction of the scheme.
Criticising Dinamalar in a post on X (formerly Twitter), Chief Minister Stalin said that at a time when Manuvaadis were in power and were ruling with the idea of one race doing the hard work and the other eating and fattening, the Dravidian party was formed so that everyone could get access to everything.
Adding that the malice in them has not disappeared, he asked if this kind of headline was possible at a time when Chandrayaan was sent to the Moon, then what would have been the condition 100 years back.
According to political commentators, the reason for bringing in the issue of religion and caste in this case is the fact that Dinamalar, was founded by a Tamil Brahmin named TV Ramasubbaiyer.
Portraying it as an Aryan-Dravidian issue, Udhayanidhi Stalin wrote, "The Dravidian model looks at whether education is overflowing. Arya model checks if the toilet is overflowing!”
A number of DMK members and supporters criticised the article and burnt copies of the newspaper. Boards and banners of the newspaper were damaged in various places.
