Karti Chidambaram (L); Thamizhachi Thangapandian (R)
Karti Chidambaram, the Congress MP from Sivaganga, today criticised Thamizhachi Thangapandian, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP from South Chennai, for her comments in an interview with The Federal.
A video clip of the interview was shared by G Sundarrajan of the Poovulagin Nanbargal NGO.
When asked if she could dine with any historical figure, who would it be, she said “Methagu Desiya Thalaivar Prabhakaran” (honourable national leader Prabhakaran) and to the next question about what she would ask the person, she said, "I would apologise, I would ask his pardon for that Mullivaikal tragedy."
Thamizhachi Thangapandian is the sister of Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu.
In his posts on X (formerly Twitter), replying to the post by Sundarrajan, Karti wrote, "Eulogising Prabakaran doesn’t sit well with anyone in @INCIndia. To gloss over the dastardly assassination of Rajiv Gandhi along with 17 Tamils is not acceptable.
"This Prabakaran Veerappan Tamil Nationalism is as fringe as Hindutva Nationalism" and;
"One can sympathise & support the Palestinian people without being an endorser of Hamas, likewise one can stand with the Tamils of Srilanka in their struggle for equality & dignity without being an apologist & fanboy of the LTTE. Why is this difficult to comprehend?"
