Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy
In a video clip that is going viral on social media, K Ponmudy, the Higher Education minister in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government, can be heard saying that the I.N.D.I.A alliance was formed to fight Sanatana Dharma.
The remarks were made at the same conference to eradicate Sanatana Dharma, in which Chief Minister MK Stalin's son Udhayanidhi Stalin had equated Sanatana Dharma with diseases like malaria, corona and dengue and called for its eradication.
Ponmudy said, "Through newspapers, through media, our ideology to oppose Sanatana, I.N.D.I.A, all our friends present here have said, this I.N.D.I.A alliance has been made to oppose Sanatana.
"The parties may have differences of opinion but with regards to opposing Sanatana Dharma, there is no difference of opinion.
"All those in the alliance support establishing equality, saving minorities, saving equality among men and women. The purpose of this I.N.D.I.A alliance, created by 26 parties today, is to create social consciousness on these issues.
"All of you who have come here, however much we do in a conference, only when we win in politics, will be able to do this."
The video clip has emerged days after a number of I.N.D.I.A alliance members like the Trinamool Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) said that they did not agree with the remarks made by Udhayanidhi.
