Udhayanidhi Stalin (L), A Raja (R)
A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court by Advocate Vineet Jindal seeking the registration of an FIR against Chief Minister MK Stalin's son Udhayanidhi Stalin and senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader A Raja for their remarks on Sanatana Dharma.
While Udhayanidhi had called for the eradication of Sanatana Dharma by equating it with diseases like malaria and dengue, Raja had said that Udhayanidhi had been soft and he should have compared it to diseases like HIV and leprosy which have social stigma associated with them.
In a post on X, Advocate Jindal wrote, "Petition has been filed before Supreme Court by Adv & Social Activist @vineetJindal19 through Adv. Rajkishor Chaudhary seeking FIR against Udhaynidhi Stalin & A Raja for hate speeches against Sanatan Dharam.
"Also seeking contempt proceedings against CP, Delhi Police,DCP,North West & Commissioner of Police, Chennai for not lodging FIR & action as per SC orders against Udhaynidhi Stalin & A Raja for their Hate Speech."
Advocate Jindal had earlier filed a complaint against Udhayanidhi's speech with the Delhi police.
On 5 September, a group of 262 eminent citizens comprising former judges, bureaucrats and officers of the armed forces had written to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud asking him to take cognisance of the remarks. They wrote that the Tamil Nadu police should have taken action against Udhayanidhi without waiting for a complaint to be filed.
Yesterday, (7 September), a delegation of senior leaders of the Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) met Governor RN Ravi and asked him to instruct the Director General of Police (DGP) to file an FIR against Udhayanidhi.
