Tamil Nadu: Case Against Annamalai For Remarks In YouTube Interview Stayed For 4 Weeks By Madras HC
The Madras High Court.
Justice G Jayachandran of the Madras High Court on Thursday (30 November) granted an interim stay on all proceedings for four weeks in a case filed against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president K Annamalai by activist V Piyush at a court in Salem.
A notice has been sent to Piyush, asking him to file his reply by 4 January.
According to a report by The Hindu, the case was filed by Piyush against Annamalai for claiming that a Christian missionary NGO was the first to file a case in the Supreme Court asking for a ban of firecrackers during Diwali.
Annamalai had approached the High Court asking it to quash the case filed by Piyush. He stated that the complainant had twisted an interview given to a YouTube channel in October 2022 and filed a complaint under Sections 153 A (promoting enmity between different groups) and Section 505 (public mischief).
Further, he stated that over 60000 people had watched the interview and there had not been any disturbance to public tranquillity or objection from the Christian community.
Piyush recently filed a complaint at the Salem court against Annamalai for his remarks regarding Muthuramalinga Thevar and former chief minister CN Annadurai. He contended that the remarks were provocative and called for violence against non-believers.
