O Panneerselvam (OPS)
Days after taking up suo moto revision of the discharge and acquittal of senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) ministers Thangam Thennarasu, KKSSR Ramachandran and K Ponmudy, Justice N Anand Venkatesh of the Madras High Court today (30 August) took up suo moto revision of the discharge of former chief minister O Panneerselvam (OPS) in a disproportionate assets case.
The matter will come up for hearing on 31 August.
Panneerselvam was discharged by the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Sivaganga in 2012, a year after the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) returned to power in the state under the leadership of the late J Jayalalithaa.
This comes days after DMK organising secretary RS Bharathi had said that the Court was selectively picking up cases against DMK ministers and not looking into similar cases against AIADMK ministers.
Advocate R Krishnamurthy had urged Justice Venkatesh to initiate contempt proceedings against Bharathi for his comments but Justice Venkatesh declined saying that he was not worried about the comments as he felt that he had acted true to his conscience.
