ChatGPT, by OpenAI, has been the subject of much debate regarding its impact on certain types of jobs.

The founder of Infosys, N R Narayana Murthy, downplayed concerns in a recent interview with CNBC.

He noted that ChatGPT is a valuable addition to knowledge generation and can assist with certain tasks, such as essay writing, but that the impact of the technology ultimately depends on how it is used.

“If there is a competition between you and me, you will use the ChatGPT output as your base, and then you will add your own differentiation, your own smartness, your own tweaking,” said the founder of Infosys.

However, he added, “the lazy guys will get C. Only smart people will get A. Therefore, I am not so much worried about ChatGPT.”

Murthy acknowledged that he will certainly use ChatGPT, which, he said, will be an “instrument” to produce better quality work.

However, he emphasised that ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence (AI) technologies will not replace humans as the human mind is the most powerful imagination machine.

"There is nothing that can beat the human mind,” he said.

Murthy founded Infosys, now a software services global company, in 1981.
