Minister of State for IT Rajeev Chandrasekhar.
The government on Wednesday (27 July) informed the Parliament that the Draft National Data Governance Framework policy is currently under finalisation.
The Draft National Data Governance Framework policy aims to ensure that non-personal data and anonymised data from both government and private entities are safely accessible by research and innovation eco-system.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had released the Draft National Data Governance Framework Policy on 26 May 2022 for public consultation.
The policy aims to provide an institutional framework for data/datasets/metadata rules, standards, guidelines and protocols for sharing of non-personal data sets while ensuring privacy, security and trust, Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar said in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The Indian Data Management Office (IDMO), which will be responsible for framing, managing, reviewing and revising the National Data Governance Framework Policy, will coordinate closely with line ministries, state governments, and other schematic programmes to standardise data management by building up capacity and capabilities in each ministry, the minister said.
Further, it will accelerate inclusion of non-personal datasets housed within ministries and private companies into the India Datasets programme, he added.
