Govt Received Three Applications Under Semicon India Programme, Approved Modernisation Of SCL In Mohali: MoS IT

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Friday (25 March) told the Parliament that the government has received three applications under Semicon India Programme for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs in India for manufacturing of semiconductor chips, including microprocessors chips.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha, the minister said that the incentive may be extended upto two eligible applicants with approval of the Union Cabinet.
He said that the government has also approved modernisation of Semi-Conductor Laboratory, Mohali as a brownfield Fab.
However, applications received under the Semicon India Programme for manufacturing of chips are yet to be approved subject to the recommendation of India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), he said.
The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, had approved the Semicon India Programme with an outlay of Rs 76,000 crore in December last year for the development of semiconductor and display manufacturing ecosystem in our country.
The first round of applications was invited till 15 February for setting up of Semiconductor and Display Fabs.
Three companies - Vedanta-Foxconn joint venture; IGSS ventures pte, Singapore; and ISMC - have submitted applications for Semiconductor Fabs, the Electronics and IT Ministry had said in a release.
The applications have been received for setting up 28 nm to 65nm Semiconductor Fabs with capacity of approximately 120,000 wafers per month and the projected investment of $13.6 billion wherein fiscal support from the Central Government is being sought for nearly $5.6 billion, it added.
