L&T Dispatches Steam Generator For 700 MWe Reactors To Be Set Up At Nuclear Power Project In Haryana's Fatehabad

Engineering and construction major Larsen and Toubro has dispatched the fourth steam generator for Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited's (NPCIL) indigenously designed 700 MWe pressurised heavy water reactors (PHWR) to be set up at Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana in Haryana's Fatehabad district, the company said in a statement on Thursday (10 March).

The ceremony took place at L&T’s state-of-the-art Heavy Engineering Complex located at Hazira near Surat in the presence of dignitaries from NPCIL and L&T, the company said in a release.

According to the release, the entire order was completed six months ahead of schedule creating a global benchmark in the nuclear manufacturing industry despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Steam Generators (SG) are heat exchangers which convert water into steam using the heat produced in a nuclear reactor core. It acts as a boundary between radiated and outside environment in a PHWR.

Anil V Parab, Member- L&T Executive Committee, Senior Vice President and Head, L&T Heavy Engineering said “We thank NPCIL for having entrusted L&T with the opportunity to be part of India’s nuclear power program since its inception. We are proud to deliver this critical equipment six months ahead of contractual delivery by overcoming the pandemic challenges".

L&T’s ‘A M Naik Heavy Engineering Complex’ is a globally benchmarked, state-of-the-art, fully integrated, digitally-enabled manufacturing facility, the company said.
