Technology
Indian Railways installs RITS devices for real-time train tracking.
Using newer technologies for tracking of trains, Indian Railways has installed Real Time Train Information System (RTIS) devices in over 2,000 locomotives, enabling seamless information flow for automatic charting of trains.
Developed in collaboration with Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), RTIS gives mid-section updates with a periodicity of 30 seconds.
RTIS is being installed on the locomotives for automatic acquisition of train movement timing at the stations, including that of arrival and departure or run-through.
They get automatically plotted on the control chart of those trains in the Control Office Application (COA) system.
The Train Control can now track the location and speed of RTIS enabled locomotives/trains more closely, without any manual intervention.
RTIS devices have been installed for 2,700 locomotives in 21 electric loco sheds. As part of Phase-II roll out, 6,000 more locomotives across 50 loco sheds shall be covered by utilising ISRO’s Satcom hub.
Currently, GPS feed from around 6,500 locomotives is being directly fed into the COA. This has enabled automatic charting of trains and real time information flow to passengers through COA and NTES integration.
Introducing ElectionsHQ + 50 Ground Reports Project
The 2024 elections might seem easy to guess, but there are some important questions that shouldn't be missed.
Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
