In the tragic incident of six individuals losing their lives in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh due to a land dispute, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken decisive measures against officials, including the suspension of senior officers.

A mob, seeking retribution for the murder of a local influential figure involved in a prolonged property dispute, attacked and killed five members of a family on 2 October.

In response, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated strict action. The immediate suspension of the Sub-District Magistrate and Area Officer of Rudrapur district has been ordered.

Additionally, departmental action has been initiated against former Sub Collector Ram Vilas, Om Prakash, Dhruv Shukla, and Sanjeev Kumar Upadhyay.

The Chief Minister's intervention followed the lack of action by officials in response to complaints filed through the Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) concerning the unlawful occupation of village land by Satya Prakash Dubey, who was later killed by the mob.

Prem Yadav, a local strongman, and Satyaprakash Dubey had a longstanding property dispute in the Deoria district. The then Tehsildar and current Tehsildar of Balrampur district have been suspended, with departmental action ordered. The Tehsildar of Rudrapur has also faced suspension.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised that those responsible for negligence in handling IGRS cases in the past will be held accountable.

The sequence of events leading to the Deoria killings began when Prem Yadav visited Satyaprakash Dubey's house on 2 October to resolve their rivalry.

During their conversation, a woman attacked Yadav with a sharp-edged weapon. The news of Yadav's murder prompted a mob of his supporters to enter Dubey's house and brutally kill him along with four other family members.

The victims included Dubey's wife Kiran Dubey (52), daughters Saloni (18) and Nandani (10), and son Gandhi (15). Dubey's 8-year-old son Anmol sustained injuries and was referred to BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur, where he is in critical condition. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath personally visited the injured child in the hospital to inquire about his well-being.
