Prime Minister Narendra Modi rounded off his three-nation tour on a day-long visit to the Netherlands with an address to the Indian community residing there.

He commended the people of Suriname, a former Dutch colony, and their long link ties to India. Suriname, a country in South America, has a significant portion of Indian origin people, where Sarnami Hindustani, a dialect of Bhojpuri is a recognised language.

He affirmed that there might be many among the audience who have never seen India, or are fourth or the fifth generation descendants of migrants from India and have lost the roots of where they’ve come from, but all said in done, the love for India amongst these people remains, which was followed by a raucous cheer of “Modi, Modi”.

He also avowed that no matter the colour of one’s passport, the people of the room are intrinsically linked to the people of India by blood which garnered him a plethora of cheers and applause.
