Israel on Sunday (5 November) said that it carried out "significant" strikes in Gaza after cutting the strip in two.

Israeli ground forces "have encircled Gaza City... Now there exists a south Gaza and a north Gaza," Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) spokesperson Daniel Hagari said.

During an evening press conference, Hagari said that IDF was carrying out “widespread strikes on terror infrastructure, below ground and above it".

The increased intensity of the bombardment came after the IDF said that new intelligence suggested that Hamas terror group was using medical facilities in the Gaza Strip to shield terror activities.

Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister on Sunday again rejected international calls for ceasefire in Gaza.

He vowed that "there won't be a ceasefire until the hostages are returned".

"Let them remove this from their lexicon. We are saying this to our enemies and to our friends," Netanyahu said after meeting troops at an air force base.

"We will simply continue until we win. We have no alternative," he said.
