"Lured To Travel To Iran On False Promises Of Employment": MEA Warns Indians Against Fake Job Offers In Iran

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a caution to Indian citizens following reports of fake employment schemes in Iran that have led to kidnappings, the Hindustan Times reported.
"There have been several recent cases involving Indian citizens who have been lured to travel to Iran on false promises of employment, or with assurances that they would be sent further to third-countries for employment. Upon reaching Iran, these Indian nationals have been kidnapped by criminal gangs and ransoms have been demanded from their families for securing their release," the MEA said in a statement.
The ministry stressed that citizens must exercise “strictest vigilance” to avoid falling into such traps. It pointed out that the Government of Iran allows visa-free entry to Indians only for tourism purposes.
The advisory further warned that any agents promising visa-free entry to Iran for employment or other purposes could be working with criminal gangs. It urged Indian citizens not to fall prey to such offers.
Indian nationals are urged to verify all job offers abroad and report suspicious activities to local authorities or Indian diplomatic missions.
This advisory serves as a reminder of the risks associated with unverified employment opportunities in foreign countries and the need for caution when dealing with unknown recruiters.
