Less than a week after India supported a United Nations resolution for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed he spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, emphasising India's stance on the early restoration of peace in the region as reported by NDTV.

During their exchange, the leaders discussed shared concerns about the safety of maritime traffic in the wake of the Israel-Hamas conflict, where attacks on cargo ships in the Red Sea shipping route have raised fears of a major disruption to international commerce.

In a post on social media, PM Modi reiterated India's consistent stand for stability in the region and humanitarian assistance for those affected by the conflict.

PM Modi highlighted the importance of addressing shared concerns while emphasising India's commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The Red Sea, connected to the Mediterranean by the Suez Canal, serves as a crucial shipping route, with about 12 per cent of world shipping traffic passing through, including trade to India.
