Biden and Putin
A reporter asked White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre if US President Joe Biden will meet with the Russian President Vladimir Putin during the G20 summit.
Karine Jean-Pierre replied that the US president has no plans to meet the Russian president, even to discuss the release of basketball player Brittney Griner.
Biden “has no intention of meeting with President Putin,” said Karine Jean-Pierre. This statement comes after statements by Russia's foreign minister that Russia is open to talks but Washington DC must put forward sane and serious proposals.
According to Joe Biden, "the Russians need to take the serious offer that we put forward on the table, or make a serious counter-offer to negotiate, but in good faith,” said Karine Jean-Pierre.
Joe Biden himself, during an interview with CNN's Jake Tapper said that he has does not plan to meet with the Russian president. “Look, I have no intention of meeting with him,” said Biden. Adding that he might meet with the Russian president but only to talk about the release of Brittney Griner, implying there won't be any effort to talk about Ukraine and end the war.
Griner is a basketball player who was arrested in Russia after Russian authorities discovered drugs in her luggage at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport. On August, she was sentenced 9 years to prison. She is appealing the verdict and the court will hear her appeal on 25th October.

Do freebies still sway voters? Do people prioritise infrastructure when voting? How will Punjab vote?
The answers to these questions provide great insights into where we, as a country, are headed in the years to come.
Swarajya is starting a project with an aim to do 50 solid ground stories and a smart commentary service on WhatsApp, a one-of-a-kind. We'd love your support during this election season.
