Canadian PM Trudeau's Ratings Plummeted After Controversial Allegations Against India, NDTV Poll Reveals

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's approval ratings have reached an all-time low, according to a recent survey conducted by NDTV.

The survey, carried out in collaboration with Claster Consulting, focused on the allegations made by Trudeau regarding India's involvement in the death of a Khalistani terrorist.

The strained relations between the two countries have further deteriorated due to these claims, which were made by Trudeau in the Canadian Parliament last month.

Canada has failed to provide any evidence to support the claims made by Trudeau, which have been vehemently dismissed by India as baseless and driven by ulterior motives. The allegations have further strained the delicate relationship between the two countries.

According to the survey, the top concerns for Canadians are pocketbook issues such as the cost of living and housing, followed by healthcare and the environment.

The majority of respondents, 46 per cent, mentioned that the cost of living and inflation were the most important, while 11 per cent identified housing as their main concern.

In the survey, 54 per cent of respondents expressed their disapproval of Trudeau's performance.

It is concerning for the Prime Minister, who will be seeking re-election in 2025, that 38 per cent of people strongly disapprove, indicating potential voter fatigue.

According to the survey, the majority of Canadians place importance on the country's relationship with India.

Out of those surveyed, 62 per cent stated that the relationship is either very or somewhat important, while only 20 per cent believed it to be unimportant.

Regarding the impact of Prime Minister Trudeau's allegations against India, 65 per cent of respondents felt that the relationship had somewhat or significantly worsened. 15 per cent expressed that there was no change, while 12 per cent were unsure of the impact.

Inquiring about awareness of PM Trudeau's statements about Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 57 per cent of those interviewed confirmed that they had heard or read about them, while 31 per cent had not. 12 per cent responded with uncertainty.

Among those who were aware of the allegations, 37 per cent stated that it had somewhat or significantly diminished their favorable view of Trudeau, while 25 per cent claimed it had actually increased their favorability towards him.

According to a recent poll, 41 per cent of Canadians believe that PM Trudeau mishandled the situation and put Canada's relationship with India at risk with his allegations, while 27 per cent think he handled it well.

Given the current low ratings of PM Trudeau, there is speculation about whether he raised the issue and jeopardised his relationship with India as a distraction from his own failures.

The poll reveals that 39 per cent of Canadians agree with this theory, while 35 per cent do not.
