'Creating A Better Planet': PM Modi In Dubai To Attend World Climate Action Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (30 November) landed in Dubai to attend the World Climate Action Summit.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated for the provision of sufficient climate financing and technology transfer to developing nations. He emphasized this as a necessary measure to equip them with the capacity to address climate change issues.

"Landed in Dubai to take part in the COP-28 Summit. Looking forward to the proceedings of the Summit, which are aimed at creating a better planet," PM Modi posted on X on his arrival in Dubai.

"Deeply moved by the warm welcome from the Indian community in Dubai. Their support and enthusiasm is a testament to our vibrant culture and strong bonds," he said in a post later.

Prior to his departure from Delhi, the Prime Minister expressed his pleasure at the realisation that this notable event is being presided over by the UAE, an important Indian partner on climate action.

"In keeping with our civilizational ethos, India has always laid emphasis on climate action even as we pursue social and economic development," he said.

"During our G20 presidency, climate was high on our priority. The New Delhi Leaders' Declaration includes numerous concrete steps on climate action and sustainable development. I look forward to the COP28 taking forward the consensus on these issues," PM Modi said in his departure statement.

PM Modi will attend the World Climate Action Summit on Friday during the United Nations 'Conference of the Parties' on climate, known as COP28.

Numerous global leaders are scheduled to participate in the climate action summit, where they will deliberate on strategies to decrease greenhouse gas emissions and efficiently fight against climate change.

The summit segment of the COP28, known as the World Climate Action Summit, is its most prominent part.

The Prime Minister has plans to attend three additional high-profile side events. The COP28 event is taking place from 30 November to 12 December under the presidency of the UAE.

The Prime Minister, in his address, highlighted that COP28 will serve as a platform to assess the advancements achieved under the Paris Agreement, and blueprint the future direction for climate action.

During his visit, Prime Minister Modi is anticipated to conduct bilateral meetings with several leaders attending the summit, such as Israeli President Isaac Herzog, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and the recently elected President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu.
